Presentation of AFROSAI

The African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI), hereinafter referred to as "the Organization", was established as a response to the resolutions of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).  Its fundamental objective is to establish close cooperation among its members for an African regional integration capable of meeting the expectations of INTOSAI. The AFROSAI Organization is taking shape.  It has a membership of 54 Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) that include Audit Courts, Auditors, Controllers-General and State Inspectorates.

In addition, technical and institutional capacity building plays a key role in the Organization.

The official languages used are French, English, Portuguese and Arabic which are divided into three linguistic subgroups, namely:

AFROSAI-A (for Arabic-speaking SAIs),

AFROSAI-E (for English-speaking SAIs),

AFROSAI-F or CREFIAF (for French-speaking SAIs),

Its history

AFROSAI was founded at the Constituent General Assembly held in Cameroon in November 1976, following recommendations made during the INTOSAI Congress in Madrid in 1974.  By then, it was an African Association of Supreme Audit Institutions.

In July 2005, representatives of Supreme Audit Institutions of African States meeting in a General Assembly in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, decided to create at the regional level an organization called the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions, having its own statutes and principles.

AFROSAI is organized around a General Assembly which holds once every three years. The most recent, the 13th of its kind, took place from 24 to 30 October 2014 in Egypt. This General Assembly was marked by the decision that Cameroon hosts, for a nine-year renewable period, the headquarters of the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions.
